IOS Standard Voice Over Control Buttons; iPhone X, XR, XS, XS-Max and iPad 3rd Generation:

Important Notes:

On iPhone X, XR, XS, XS-Max and 3rd generation iPad Pro; the power button replaces the functions previously performed by the physical home key, included at bottom of front screen  on previous iPhone and iPad models.  This change was necessitated as the screen on iPhone X, XR, XS, XS-Max and 3rd generation iPad Pro has been pushed to all four corners thus replacing previous location of physical home key with usable screen surface.

On iPhone X, XR, XS,XS-Max and 3rd generation iPad Pro; facial recognition replaces touch ID.  This change from previous models was necessitated due to removal of physical home key.

All button locations on iPhones are identified from the reference point of the screen facing the user in portrait mode configuration.

All button locations on iPads are identified from the reference point of the screen facing the user in Landscape mode configuration.

Voice Over is activated in settings/general/accessibility/VoiceOver or press the Siri key, by pressing power button and holding for one second before releasing followed by commanding Siri to Turn On VoiceOver.  VoiceOver must be turned on for a Blind individual to use an iPhone or iPad.

Voice Over Keyboard Style Interactions:

Keyboard style determines how a Voice Over user interfaces with the on screen number keypad to enter personal ID code to unlock device.  When keyboard style is set to standard then the number is found by placing a single finger on screen and moving finger till desired number is announced, raise finger followed by a single finger double tap to enter number. When keyboard style is set to touch mode then numbers are entered by placing a single finger on screen, then by moving finger around on screen key pad till desired number is announced followed by raising finger to enter last announced number.  Understanding The difference between these  two keyboard typing styles when entering personal ID code numbers is important to avoid permanently locking out user after ten successive incorrect attempts to enter personal ID code.

Button Locations Identified:

Power button is located at upper right side on iPhones and at upper left side on iPads.

Volume Up and down buttons are located  on left side of iPhones, buttons from top to bottom are, first the mute switch followed by the volume up button followed by the volume down button.

Volume Up and down buttons are located  on top at left on iPads, buttons from left to right are, the volume up button followed by the volume down button.

Button Controlled Functions Defined:

Turn on from power off mode by pressing and holding power button for five seconds followed by entering stored personal ID code to unlock and open for use.

Turn on from sleep  mode by pressing and releasing the power button without hesitation, followed by allowing facial recognition to verify, if verification fails then enter stored personal ID code to unlock and open for use.

Power down to sleep  mode by pressing and releasing power button without hesitation.

Power off by simultaneously  pressing and holding the Volume Up and Power  button for five secondsbefore releasing followed by a single finger double tap of the screen to activate the power off on screen slide switch.  Note for this action either the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons may be chosen to facilitate this action.

Hard boot power down recovery function is activated by pressing the Volume Up button and holding for half a second, then release followed by pressing the Volume Down button and holding for half a second, then release followed by pressing and holding the Power button for fifteen seconds prior to release.  The iPhone or iPad will momentarily shut down then automatically power up with the required action of entering personal stored ID code to unlock for use.

If the accessibility shortcut function has been activated then the chosen accessibility feature such as VoiceOver or Magnifier can be turned on or off by three rapid successive presses of the power button.

Siri function is activated by pressing the power button and holding briefly prior to release.

Apple Wallet is activated when iPhone or iPad Pro is in sleep mode by pressing the power button in rapid succession two times.
