Inaccessible websites & Web Documents

Webpages and Documents can be inaccessible for at least two reasons:  Webpage/Document Design & Implementation, and Lack of Education by Users on how to Navigate Webpages/Web Documents

Purpose:

The purpose of this page is to get input on which webpages and web documents are not accessible to people using screen readers or other accessibility tools, to read these websites & web documents.  For the purpose of this page, Web Documents are documents such as pdfs, word documents, etc. that are provided on web sites.  The websites we would like to focus on are government websites that provide information or services for people who are blind or have low vision.

Webpage/Document Design & Implementation

We seek your input on which websites and web documents need to be checked for accessibility and also your comments on your testing results on the websites listed below:

Lack of Education by Users on how to Navigate Webpages/Web Documents

One of the biggest challenges people who are blind, or have low vision, face is, inaccessibility due to lack of knowledge on how to use the tools available to them.

This lack of knowledge robs them of independence and many of their rights available to them from government, and other organizations.

We seek your input on What challenges you face in the area of education on how to navigate websites & web documents and how you recommend remedying this situation.  Please leave us your comments.

Come Back Often to see what others are commenting

We plan on posting comments and updates on websites/web documents that need accessibility testing, and the results of tests done by contributors.  We will also post comments on issues identified in posts.

The idea of publishing Blind Bloopers is not original with this Blog.  We are simply encouraging you to share your experiences so we can all learn, grow, excel and have FUN.

Durham Vision InSight members Andy H and Jim T were inspirations and I hope they will send in a report of some of their Blind Bloopers.
